We are a small Episcopal Church on the banks of the Rappahannock in Port Royal, Virginia. We acknowledge that we gather on the traditional land of the first people of Port Royal, the Nandtaughtacund, and we respect and honor with gratitude the land itself, the legacy of the ancestors, and the life of the Rappahannock Tribe. Our mission statement is to do God’s Will in all that we do.

Port Royal Christmas Tree Lighting Dec. 7, 2018

The title of the event limits its extent. It’s a combination of a pizza dinner, raffle, Christmas tree lighting, games and a visit with Santa plus gifts provided after the visit. It is also a cooperative event between 3 churches, Parks and Rec., Town of Port Royal, the merchants, Caroline’s Promise and the Fire Department – and, of course, Santa. St. Peter’s provided the pizza and helped serve it. The children are the real stars.

The weather was better than last year where there was snow and the crowd was larger. The dinner was more extensive adding chicken nuggets to the ample pizza, fruit, nuts, salad and vegetables. New this year was the distribution of coats and home smoke alarms by the Port Royal Fire Department. Also added this year was a raffle sponsored by the town of Port Royal with gifts from Port Royal merchants.

The tree was lit and Santa came sauntering in. The crowd sang both “Joy to the World” and “Santa Claus is coming to town”. The children sat down with Santa – some with extensive lists! Gifts were distributed afterwards.
