We are a small Episcopal Church on the banks of the Rappahannock in Port Royal, Virginia. We acknowledge that we gather on the traditional land of the first people of Port Royal, the Nandtaughtacund, and we respect and honor with gratitude the land itself, the legacy of the ancestors, and the life of the Rappahannock Tribe. Our mission statement is to do God’s Will in all that we do.

Iris

The wonder of life was nurtured this week with a steady rain. That rain plus the morning rain helped to give birth to newly opened iris at the Church with the droplets of the life giving rain on top. Surprise! Look closely, don’t delay and you will see!.

The factor of the surprises in life was also apparent in the Gospel story of the Road to Emmaus. Two along the road, Cleopas and a companion, encountered a stranger no more than 7 miles from Jerusalem who had not heard about the resurrection there. Imagine that! After a conversation when it was getting late they invited him back to stay the night. As he blessed and broke the bread they realized it was Jesus. Another moment of life- the bread of life – the Eucharist.  But suddenly he vanished and was gone. Surprise! Look closely, don’t delay and you will see!  This vision and one other that occurred that day provided  new hope to the despondent disciples that their work was only just beginning – not ending.
