We are a small Episcopal Church on the banks of the Rappahannock in Port Royal, Virginia. We acknowledge that we gather on the traditional land of the first people of Port Royal, the Nandtaughtacund, and we respect and honor with gratitude the land itself, the legacy of the ancestors, and the life of the Rappahannock Tribe. Our mission statement is to do God’s Will in all that we do.

Evening Prayer at the Bowens, Sept 30, 2012

Oakenbrow

The fabulous weather continued and 17 of us ventured to Perry and Virginia Bowen’s home called Oakenbrow for a service of Evening Prayer. The home sits on a hill overlooking fields leading to the Rappahannock River.

The service opened with "All Praise To Thee My God This Night" by Thomas Tallis

We thank Susan O for agreeing to accompany the choir in the canticles. They practiced two weeks for the event. An audio file of the first canticle follows:

Canticles Evening Prayer

The service was Rite 1, Evening Prayer from the 1928 Prayer Book which Virginia remembered from her childhood. She picked the hymns and canticles to be used.

Before the service there was a wine and cheese party.
