We are a small Episcopal Church on the banks of the Rappahannock in Port Royal, Virginia. We acknowledge that we gather on the traditional land of the first people of Port Royal, the Nandtaughtacund, and we respect and honor with gratitude the land itself, the legacy of the ancestors, and the life of the Rappahannock Tribe. Our mission statement is to do God’s Will in all that we do.

Epiphany 5, Feb. 7 – Waiting for the Lord for…

This week the video featured Brad on the piano “Shall we gather” and organ as well as joint reading of the Psalm filmed in the church. The collage features various images of the church.

The key word of the week was waiting but reserving time to take strength from the Lord. From Isaiah “but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

The message from the Gospel which showed Christ during a typical day as healer to Peter’s mother, casting out demons in the community and creating wholeness during his preaching. But he found time for renewal – “In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed.”

“Everlasting God, you give strength to the powerless and power to the faint; you raise up the sick and cast out demons. Make us agents of healing and wholeness, that your good news may be made known to the ends of your creation. Amen.

What’s in it for us ? The sermon stressed the important of waiting for the Lord. In our case to rid the world of COVID-19 so we can resume worship in the church. But there’s a catch. “The sermon used a resurrection story at the end of the Gospel according to John because this story is about waiting for the Lord and finding out that you really can’t return to the past.”

From the sermon – “We are waiting for the Lord to resurrect Jesus. And for the Lord to resurrect us, both in this life and in the next. … But after a while, Peter must have realized that even though Jesus had been resurrected, Jesus and the disciples weren’t going to be returning to the past… God wants to take us into a resurrection future.”

So we need to consider our various ministries, to adapt and create new ones. The Parish meeting videos on Jan 31, 2021 considered two – mission to Jamaica, a project with Port Royal. Here are the relevant videos:
