We are a small Episcopal Church on the banks of the Rappahannock in Port Royal, Virginia. We acknowledge that we gather on the traditional land of the first people of Port Royal, the Nandtaughtacund, and we respect and honor with gratitude the land itself, the legacy of the ancestors, and the life of the Rappahannock Tribe. Our mission statement is to do God’s Will in all that we do.

Advent 4, Dec 19, 2010 – Christmas Pageant

Christmas is about surprises and this week we had a surprise storm. There were predictions of one for Saturday night which could have cancelled this year’s pageant as it did last year. Fortunately it did not materialize. The snow on the ground added to the play’s setting. The well received play was under the skillful direction of Nancy Long.

The play could also not have been done without the Fisher family. Becky provided the angel costumes, Kim was an angel, Chris and Tucker were shephards, and Zeke was just all around.

We were treated with dual celtic harps of Kim Fisher and Marilyn Newman. Brad skillfully led us through 8 hymns.

Carolyn and Dave Duke

Likewise the Duke family, Dave, Carolyn, Chester and Arthur provided Joseph, Mary and Jesus. Dave was realistic with several days worth of beard.

The Angels were angelic and included Kim Fisher and included several granddaughters including Bill and Phyllis Sue’s. The cast was rounded out by Peggy Roberts and kings, Helmut, Mike Newman and Roger Key. A photo gallery of this year’s play can be found here. Previous years plays are available – 2008, 2007, and 2005. Does anyone have the 2006 play ? You can find the bulletin with the details of the play here.
Bible study covered the 3rd in a series on prayer. This Sunday it was restful prayers. How do we engage in restful prayers ? Through solitude getting away from everyday concerns, silence or letting go and recollections or being aware what is around you. She related these prayers to the trinity – the Holy Spirit prays through us. Jesus as high priest prays through us to God at the same time. Lastly God completes us, operating through us. The prayer series concludes next Sunday.
