We had 36 at our service which is lower than normal with people away. Other visitors included the 17 year old cicadas as well other critters – ants and spiders. More pleasing were the line of small yellow wildflowers in front of the church and in the graveyard and the geraniums in the church window sills. The weather was somewhat dull until the end of the service when the sun shone through but also which raised the humidity. Most of those who came did wear red to symbolize the holy fire coming down to the disciplines on that memorable Pentecost. Geraniums lined the windows and was a symbol for the day

Vacation Bible School – Day 1, August 12, 2013
Vacation Bible School got off to a good start with 10 children and several adult leaders. Thanks to Elizabeth, Cookie, Eunice, Marion, Barbara, Kelly, Catherine and Becky for their help to make it a success. Becky was the grand coordinator. While the evening was hot no one seemed to mind. While the children gobbled down sandwiches, the adults had barbecue, slaw, potato salad and a wonderful lemon dessert Cookie made. Children were divided into two classes – one around play and games and the other around Paul. The Adults began their own study of Paul’s letter to the Galatians.
Sunrise Service, March 31, 2013 – 7am
The day started out early for some of us at the Long’s for the 7am Sunrise service. Unfortunately, while the son came up briefly it was soon hidden by the advancing cloud cover.|St. Peter’s was well represented in scripture and song. Nancy and Helmut performed twice on “Because He Lives” and “Victory in Jesus.” Catherine provided the opening prayer and Gospel reading. Both Memorial Baptist and Shiloh were represented. Rev Joe Dobbin of Shiloh presented the sermon on “First 7 Words After Resurrection.”|The Longs offered a wonderful reception with various egg, sausage casseroles, doughnut, hash browns.
Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013 11am
At 11am, we had 54 for Easter on an increasingly cloudy and by service time some light rain. Most of all it was just cold and damp. Not Easter like! Some additions to the service this year – a set of wind chimes Catherine carried in procession. Also, with abundant children we had a children’s sermon before the main one. The metaphor of a flower bulb that rises is a wonderful metaphor for the risen Christ. As with last year we lit the paschal fire, symbolizing the new light from Christ this Easter.
The “Best” of Holy Week and Easter
Here are 50 images of the period from Palm Sunday to Easter, 2013. From Palm Sunday to Easter, we held 5 services with 166 in attendance. We also participated in the Port Royal Sunrise service on Sunday morning. On Sat. we held our 7th community dinner for 80-120 children feeding them lunch and holding an Easter egg hunt. Yes, we did walk with Jesus in his suffering and hardships and then sharing and proclaiming the resurrection.
Good Friday, March 29, 2013
Good Friday is a blend of all of the Holy Week services. There is a long reading like Palm Sunday, this year in Luke. The reading in Good Friday is always from John, a very detailed account of Christ’s last day Like Tenebrae, Good Friday creates a mood and like Maundy Thursday is one day, the last one for Christ. It maybe is the most emotional one from disbelief over the arrest, flogging, trial and eventual crucifixion in a quickly moving Friday to one of horror, anger and reflection.
7th Community Dinner, March 30, 2013
We had our 7th Community Dinner on the Saturday before Easter. As with Christmas we partnered with Parks and Rec and Caroline’s Promise. Parks and Rec provided the publicity and decorations. Caroline’s Promise the easter baskets and crafts. St. Peter’s donated 880 plastic eggs plus 43 bags/boxes of candy, individually wrapped. We had slightly lower numbers than Christmas and estimates ranged from 80-120
