We are a small Episcopal Church on the banks of the Rappahannock in Port Royal, Virginia. We acknowledge that we gather on the traditional land of the first people of Port Royal, the Nandtaughtacund, and we respect and honor with gratitude the land itself, the legacy of the ancestors, and the life of the Rappahannock Tribe. Our mission statement is to do God’s Will in all that we do.

Gospel on the Rivah, September 16, 2012

35 came to sing old gospel hymns at 5pm on September 16, 2012 and to enjoy fellowship along the Rappahannock in this much loved annual event. We thank Tom Guthrie for playing piano and all who brought plentiful food. The weather was much improved over the last two years and we enjoyed a beautful sunset along the river at the end.

Evening Prayer at Oakenbrow, Sept. 30, 2012

17 of us gathered at Virginia and Perry Bowen’s home overlooking the Rappahannock for a 5pm Evening Prayer. We used the Prayer Book of 1928 which Virginia remembered as a child. We used some of her favorite canticles and hymns. We thank Susan O for rehearsing the choir for 2 weeks on the canticles and for playing yesterday. We enjoyed the day, the sunshine and the wine and cheese before.

Good Friday, 2012

Good Friday is the climax on our three Holy Week services and ends with the burial of Jesus after his trial, crucifixion and death. We had 29 to worship tonight, April 6, 2012.

Epiphany Service, 2012

25 gathered on a warm evening in January, 2012 to celebrate the Epiphany, the arrival of the kings at Bethlehem to see the Christ child and present gifts. As the pictures show it is the season of light and wonder and possible new directions for us in the new year.

Epiphany, 2013

Epiphany was a moderate winter day with sunshine increasing through the day. Unfortunately we had a low turnout – only 33. However, the church appropriately decorate with stars – hanging, on the pews and on wreath outside. Certainly one of the highlights was coffee hour at the Longs. The Longs had prepared a feast to coincide with that of Epiphany – one of celebration.-Grilled meat, salmon, vegetable lasagna, winter vegetables in a pumpkin, peas and mixed vegetables. Don’t want to forget the dessert – persimmon pudding from Alex’s own tree, chocolate cake and other cakes.

ECM Workday, Dec. 1, 2012

The ECM held their normal meeting on Dec. 1 at Horne’s and then came to the churchyard for some cleanup between 10:30am and 1pm, just before Advent 1 on Dec. 2, 2012. Raking and removal of leaves was the main order of business. Thanks to Cookie who supervised and Bill, Mike, Jim, David, Helmut, Hugh and Catherine among others who helped.

Easter, 2012

Easter 2012 was varied – a musical prelude, lighting of the Paschal fire, a baptism and everybody’s favorite Easter hymns. All in the context of a wonderful clear, spring day with 67 worshipping at St. Peter’s.

Confirmation and Reception with Bishop Jones – July 10, 2011

Congratulations to Kimberly Fisher, Cheyenne Daye Anderson, and Tierra Carter, who are being confirmed today. Congratulations to Hugh D Anguilar, Cindy and Stanley Fields, Roger Key, Brad Volland, and Barbara and Boyd Wisdom, who are being received today

Christmas creche display, 2012

Creche adorned the windows during Christmas, 2012 One was left by Karen Woodruff and has been in the Parish house. Others were contributed by Catherine, Nancy W and Eunice. Here is a gallery of 8 of the creche. Notice how the appearance is altered depending on the light conditions. The pictures were shot both in the afternoon of Advent 4 and on Christmas Eve. St. Francis is credited with creating the first creche – a living one in 1223

Community Dinner #6, Dec. 14, 2012

This was our 6th and final community dinner, begun in mid-2011 and sponsored in part by a Mustard Seed Grant. We went out in style – 100 + people, not counting Santa and the workers. We partnered with Parks and Rec. and Caroline’s Promise which was an idea from Nancy. Workers from the Evening ECW included Barabara, Phyllis Sue, Catherine, Elizabeth, Andrea and also Nancy with the beverages and cake. Thanks for Barbara and Nancy for their planning. A beautiful evening as you will see in the pictures.

Community Dinner Dec. 13, 2013

We partnered again with Caroline’s Promise, Parks and Recreation, Town of Port Royal, Memorial Baptist to provide a Christmas experience on Dec. 13, 2013 for the children and families. We probably had 150+ people, larger than 2012. St. Peter’s provided the food – two kinds of soup, bread and vegetables. The Fishers did the face and hand painting. Numerous crafts and games were setup. After 6pm, we moved outside for caroling led by Nancy, culminating in the lighting of the tree and the arrival of Santa Claus. The line was long for Santa. After sitting on Santa’s lap, each child received a gift. St. Peter’s also donated the $50 Sheetz gas card for the raffle. Barbara Wisdom and the Evening ECW did an excellent job in organizing this wonderful evening

Community Dinner #4 – March 10, 2012

We had 28 to dinner on our fourth community dinner on March 10, 2012 at the Firehouse. Thanks to the Evening ECW and particularly Barbara Wisdom, Cynthia Fields and Elizabeth Heimbach, and ECW member Cookie Davis as well as those from the ECM, Stanley Fields and Boyd Wisdom. Stanley cooked 3 pots of wonderful chile and others contributed the salad, brownies and corn bread. Also thanks to the Diocese of Va. for the Mustard Seed grant.

5th Community Dinner, June 9, 2012

We held the 5th community dinner on June 9, 2012 at the Fire house on a beautiful summer evening with relatively mild temperatures. It was the one year anniversary and it featured Stanley’s new grill with Kirkland’s hamburgers and hotdogs. We served 25 at the dinner with 12 people helping from St. Peter’s. We also gave away a $50 gas card.

Christmas Play, 2012

With a cast of 20 we presented the “Angel Garbriel”, written by Catherine. The focus was more on the angels with meetings between Gabriel and Mary, Gabriel and Joseph, Gabriel and the Shepherds. We also had a scene between King Herod (Fred) and the wisemen. Baby Jesus was real – daughter of Ben and Kelly who played Joseph and Mary. Nancy did a solo on the famous carol, “Angel Gabriel.”
