We are a small Episcopal Church on the banks of the Rappahannock in Port Royal, Virginia. We acknowledge that we gather on the traditional land of the first people of Port Royal, the Nandtaughtacund, and we respect and honor with gratitude the land itself, the legacy of the ancestors, and the life of the Rappahannock Tribe. Our mission statement is to do God’s Will in all that we do.

Why do we have a Christmas pageant every year?

Back in 1223, St Francis of Assisi decided that he wanted to experience the birth of our Lord and Savior for himself. “For once I want to see all this with my own eyes,” St Francis said, and so he arranged with a friend to prepare in a special way for Christmas that year. In the centuries since, Christians have re-enacted this story of Jesus’ birth, the story of a transcendent God who loves us mightily and comes to dwell among us, to be our light, our life, and our salvation, both in this world and in the next.

Thank you to all who made this year’s Christmas play possible. A special thank you to Becky Fisher, the wardrobe mistress.

Donations and pledges for the Altarpiece are halfway to the goal, aiming to be at 100% by the end of March. Consider a gift in honor of or in memory of someone special at this festive time of year.

Fourth Sunday in Advent

December 20, 2015, 11am

Whence comes this rush of wings afar,
Following straight the Noël star?
Birds from the woods in wondrous flight,
Bethlehem seek this holy night.

“Tell us, ye birds, why come ye here,
Into this stable, poor and drear?”
“Hast’ning we seek the newborn King,
And all our sweetest music bring.”

Angels and shepherds, birds of the sky,
Come where the Son of God doth lie;
Christ on the earth with man doth dwell,
Join in the shout, “Noël, Noël!”
