We are a small Episcopal Church on the banks of the Rappahannock in Port Royal, Virginia. We acknowledge that we gather on the traditional land of the first people of Port Royal, the Nandtaughtacund, and we respect and honor with gratitude the land itself, the legacy of the ancestors, and the life of the Rappahannock Tribe. Our mission statement is to do God’s Will in all that we do.

We welcome you to St Peter’s.  Our hope is that you will find God’s love present with you in this place and that you will return here often to worship.

We thank Ruth TenHoven for her musical leadership while Brad is away.

Brad continues to improve, He is grateful for your continuing prayers and concern.  Brad’s address is Brad Volland, 2301 Cowan Blvd, Apt 63-C, Fredericksburg, VA  22401.

Christian Education is available at 10AM for all ages.  Next Sunday the adults will be beginning a new study of the four gospels.  We will be exploring the four Gospels in a new way based on the book The Hidden Power of the Gospels by Dr. Alexander Shaia. We will devote 25 minutes of listening to Dr. Shaia on CD followed by discussion.  Shaia believes each Gospel was written for a specific Christian community dealing with its own set of circumstances that prompted a specific question requiring an answer.  With this study, you will gain a new understanding of the Gospels, their teachings and their background as well as well as developing spiritual practices for continuing the journey.

The children are learning more about the sacrament of baptism.

Happy Birthday!  Becky Fisher, Mar 8th, Virginia Bowen, March 11th.

Ecumenical Bible study meets every Wednesday from 10AM until noon in the Parish House.   We are studying the Gospel according to Matthew.

Shrove Tuesday  Come have some fun on Tuesday at 5PM!  Ladies, get out your running shoes for St Peter’s Pancake Races, a Shrove Tuesday tradition in England.  After the races, we’ll eat pancakes  in the Parish House.

Ash Wednesday  Our observance of  Lent begins with the Imposition of Ashes and Holy Eucharist on Wednesday evening at 7PM.

Thursday Nights in Lent–All are welcome at our Lenten Bible Study, which will be held  at 7PM  on Thursday nights during Lent (March 10, 17. 24. 31, and April 7, 14).    If you are interested in being part of this Bible study, or in studying the book and being part of an on-line discussion group, please let Catherine know so that we can order enough books for everyone.  The book we will be using as a guide for the study is Peter:  Fisherman and Shepherd of the Church, by Stephen J. Binz.

Please remember to bring non-perishable food items for the Food Pantry.  Contact Fred Pannell, (804) 742-5302, with questions.   Please bring dry or canned pet food for the animal shelter ministry.  If you have any questions, please speak with Marilyn Newman, (804) 742-5091.  Please bring coats to be donated among those who need them, as well as donations for the military which may be placed in the back pew.  Please contact Joan Poland, (540) 775-3277 for more information.

I Love to Tell the Story

I love to tell the story

Of unseen things above

Of Jesus and His glory;

Of Jesus and His love.

I love to tell the story,

Because I know it’s true;

It satisfies my longings

As nothing else would do.

Refrain:

I love to tell the story,

‘Twill be my theme in glory

To tell the old, old story

Of Jesus and His love.

I love to tell the story

For those who know it best

Are hungering and thirsting

To hear it like the rest.

And when in scenes of glory,

I sing the new, new song,

‘Twill be the old, old story

That I have loved so long.

Refrain:

I love to tell the story,

‘Twill be my theme in glory

To tell the old, old story

Of Jesus and His love.
